French Polynesia consist of more than 118 islands scattered over more than 2,000 kilometers of ocean. French Polynesia uses three time zones. Gambier Time GAMT, Marquesas Time MART and Tahiti Time THAT. GAMT is UTC -0900, MART is UTC -0930 and THAT is UTC -1000. The longitude of Gambier is 135° 00’ W and the longitude of Tahiti is 149° 00’ W. Marquesas is located between Gambier and Tahiti. Therefore time in all parts of French Polynesia is almost exactly the right amount of hours behind UTC. Most time zones are one or more whole hours behind or ahead UTC. The fact that Marquesas Time is 9:30 behind UTC shows French Polynesia is very precise when it comes to time. French Polynesia has no use for daylight savings time because the Islands are not that far south of the equator.
